Solar Glass Options

Solar Glass was developed with design in mind—ensuring that architects never have to choose between sustainability and aesthetics.

Mitrex Solar Glass optimizes design and functionality by bringing people closer to the natural world while serving an additional purpose— energy generation. Mitrex Solar Glass can be used in place of regular glass without compromising on aesthetics or performance in various applications.

Mitrex photovoltaic (PV) glass uses high-output monocrystalline silicon or thin-film technology, offering various transparency, design, and colour options. The glass consists of two layers of heat-tempered, laminated, low iron glass surrounding integrated solar cells. For insulated glass units (IGUs), the interior glass of Mitrex systems can be low iron, low-E, or regular glass. Our high-quality materials coupled with a 25-year product and performance warranty guarantee durable, long-lasting solar glass for years to come.

Energy Generating Solar Glass Solutions

Mitrex Solar Glass systems are designed to replace traditional, non-solar glass in every application. The goal of Mitrex is to integrate solar technology into every material that has access to sunlight. This will reduce global carbon emissions and allow owners to passively generate revenue and supplement their energy generation with renewable power. The integration of solar energy transforms single-purpose building materials into multi-purpose materials and changes how we see our structures.

Semi-Opaque Solar Modules

Architects can benefit from our semi-opaque glass that allows light transmittance while generating energy. The space between the solar cells can be increased or decreased to alter visibility and enhance aesthetics.

Composition: Monocrystalline solar technology and laminated, low iron, tempered glass

Available In:

  • Glass-glass for laminated glass applications starting from 6.5mm thickness or insulated glass units (IGUs) available in a variety of sizes, thicknesses, and glass options
  • Glass-transparent back sheet units where a single layer of laminated glass can be utilized (i.e. greenhouses)

Applications: Fenestrations, windows, balcony railings, and more

Power Output: Up to 160W/SQM
